The Story of North American Rain Systems: Completing the Water Cycle 

Back in 2009, I saw something simple but powerful — rainwater could help protect our clean water future.

My name is Joshua Runion, and I started North American Rain Systems because I believed there was a better way to manage water. All around me, I saw runoff pollution pouring off parking lots, rooftops, and roads — carrying oils, fertilizers, and debris straight into our creeks and rivers. At the same time, I saw aquifers drying up, unable to recharge because so much of the ground had been sealed beneath hard surfaces.

I realized that rainwater collection could help close that gap — capturing water where it falls, using it wisely, and letting it return naturally through the soil to replenish the groundwater below. A simple cistern, a good filter, a smart pump — together, they could help restore the balance of the water cycle.

 From a Vision to a Movement

At the beginning, it was just me — installing systems, meeting homeowners and farmers who shared the same dream of sustainability and resilience. People who wanted to live off-grid, reduce dependence on municipal water, and take control of their resources.

And I also met people whose situation was even more fundamental — those who didn’t have access to city water, couldn’t drill a reliable well, and didn’t have a natural spring to depend on. For them, rainwater collection wasn’t just a preference, it was their only viable path to a dependable water supply.

 As demand grew, I began supplying others with the tools and components they needed for their own installations. What started as hands-on fieldwork gradually evolved into a full supply house serving customers across North America and beyond.

Every order wasn’t just a transaction — it was a connection with another person working to protect their land, their family, and the planet.

In 2020, North American Rain Systems joined forces with Fresh Water Systems to meet growing demand and combine our resources. The partnership opened new doors — expanding our product lines and giving us the ability to ship faster nationwide and even internationally.
